Use of mobile phone on green (Issued on 31/5/13)

Recently we have received enquiry about the use of mobile phones during a game.  The scenario in question is that a player got annoyed because the opponent keep receiving calls and talk on the phone during a game.

While there is no rule governing such usage, except for some clubs, I would like to remind that the law specify that there is penalty when “the players in possession of the rink are being interfered with, annoyed or distracted in any way by their opponents”.

In my opinion, I don’t think talking on the phone is a proper etiquette on the green, even if you are in possession, so all players should refrain from such actions.  As such, I suggest players should either switch off their phone or set it to silent mode to avoid the controversy.
