HKG win women’s pairs at World Cup

HKC’s Cheryl Chan and Helen Cheung won the gold medal of the women’s pairs at the inaugural World Cup today, November 8.

 

The duo defeated Canada 5:2, 4:2 in the semi-final and went on to beat New Zealand 5:4,3:3 in straight set to lift the title.

 

This is the second medals HKC won in the tournament. The other is a bronze medal at the men’s pair by James Po and Lee Ka Ho.

 

Hong Kong finished third overall at the competition.

 

World Cup is a new initiative from World Bowls and the participating countries including the host country Malaysia and 11 top ranked countries or regions from the previous World Championship in 2023, which include Australia, Canada, England, Hong Kong China, India, Ireland, New Zealand, Scotland, South Africa, USA and Wales.

 

There will be seven events in total, including singles and pairs for both genders, para men and women singles and para mixed pairs.

 

The competition will play on the artificial greens at Bukit Kiara National Lawn Bowls Center at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from November 4-8.
